Monogram Checks

Long ago, monograms were used as a utilitarian way of showing ownership of an object. Early Christians used monograms on old Greek coins. Merchants marked their wares with monograms in the middle ages. Beloved by the Victorians, ornately-designed names and initials were used on seals pressed into wax to seal letters and jewelry, watches, stationery, linens, clothing, and more.

Monograms, once an elegant art form, have grown simpler over the years. In fact, they almost disappeared there for a while. In the mid-twentieth century, monograms were seen mainly on girls' sweater sets or embroidered on the cuffs of men's dress shirts.

Two things have revived the popularity of monograms, and now they seem to appear on just about everything. First was the advent of computers which makes it much easier to provide monograms on all kinds of media. Second was the trend toward personalization.

Why? Because people like products that are created just for them. In this world of mass production, the original and distinct has great appeal. And what's more distinct than something with your own initials on it?
